How Social Media is Changing Journalism

Social media helps journalists find stories and locate sources for stories they’re currently working on when before they had to get lucky to find those kinds of things. Journalists can use social media to ask people for photos about a story and use photos they receive in their articles.

Certain people, such as the police, were at the mercy of journalists. They had to rely on them to get their stories out and if a reporter didn’t like police officers they could paint them in a bad light. Now people such as police officers can use social media to share their stories.

I think sharing a photo or video that is important for people to hear about from the news is a good way for journalists to use social media. More people are on social media and if they see something from the news because of it then they can be more informed.

A good example of a journalist’s use of social media would be this: https://twitter.com/MarkSteynOnline/status/1271269422276194304

Winston Churchill monument defaced during “Black Live’s Matter” protest.

Mark has a point. A society with no past does not have a future. People can peacefully protest and make change. It has worked in the past, such at Martin Luther King Jr., and it’s not like anything in that aspect has changed. Violently protesting does get attention, but not necessarily the attention a group who wants to make a better future should want. It tells people you have no control over your emotions and that no matter what changes are made in society enough is never enough.

I also think this: https://twitter.com/TeamCavuto/status/1244733884299988992 was a good use of social media. He uses Twitter to promote the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund which is vital for anyone who is a restaurant owner to hear about.
